I Am Committed To Developing Edo State — Gov Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the development of the State, declaring that his sole motivation in governance is to deliver visible and sustainable development across the Edo state.

The governor made the statement during an inspection of ongoing projects in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area.

Projects inspected include the construction of a 150-bed space Edo Specialist Hospital in Udomi, the Udomi Town Hall which will function as an event centre and a revenue-generating facility, and the Udomi Holiday Resort project, designed to accommodate a golf course, film village, hotel, and other tourism facilities.

Governor Okpebholo said while addressing stakeholders during the inspection, “What is in me is to develop Edo. That is what you are seeing here,”

He recalled his long-standing advocacy for modern infrastructure in the state, noting that his administration is now translating those ideas into concrete action.

The governor emphasized that Edo State’s rich history should serve as a springboard for modern development, not a constraint.

“During my campaign, I kept telling people: why should Edo be an ancient city? We started early as a state. What brought the Portuguese to Edo was what they heard about Edo. Edo cannot continue to be an ancient city. We must improve it and leave it better than the way we met it,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo assured residents that substantial infrastructural and urban transformation, particularly in Benin City, will become evident within the next two years, adding that development will be pursued evenly across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The governor stated, “In the next two years, you will see a lot of changes in Benin City. We are going to do it across board because we have three senatorial districts,”

The inspection tour was conducted in the company of top government officials and party leaders, including retired General Cecil Isegaigbe, APC Edo Central leader; Sylvester Aigbobor, APC State Deputy Chairman; and other senior government and party officials.
