Education: Gov. Okpebholo Unveils New Deal for AAU Students

In a major step toward globalizing education in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo has announced a new academic exchange initiative between Ambrose Alli University (AAU) and Fujian Jiangxia University, one of China’s prominent institutions.

The development follows a high-level visit to Government House, Benin City, by a Chinese delegation led by the President of Fujian Jiangxia University, Mr. Ling Qzdan. The visit focused on establishing a formal collaboration that will span education, culture, technology, and scientific research.

Welcoming the delegation, Governor Okpebholo hailed the initiative as a long-awaited opportunity to deepen cross-cultural and academic ties.

This is a historic moment for Edo. We are proud to host you in Benin City—one of Africa’s oldest cities with a rich cultural heritage. We see this as a strategic move to exchange knowledge in education, science, and technology, which aligns with our vision to transform Edo into a hub for learning and innovation,” the governor said.

He added that Edo’s cultural wealth and China’s technological expertise offer a perfect blend for meaningful, mutual exchange.

This partnership with Fujian Jiangxia University and our own Ambrose Alli University is a game-changer. We look forward to learning from your educational and tech models, while you explore the depth of our history and culture,” Okpebholo added.

Mr. Ling Qzdan said the visit aims to formalize institutional ties and promote long-term collaboration.

We see a strong foundation for partnership between Fujian and AAU, based on shared academic strengths. This exchange will foster excellence, innovation, and cultural understanding,” he noted.

Dr. Paddy Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, described the visit as a “strategic milestone” and confirmed that documentation to launch the partnership will begin in September.

This is about more than just student exchange—it’s about reshaping education in Edo State. We are preparing our students to compete on a global scale. This partnership is central to that goal,” Dr. Iyamu said.

He emphasized the state’s ongoing education reforms aimed at removing systemic barriers and equipping every Edo student with globally relevant skills.

China leads in infrastructure and innovation. Integrating this into our academic framework will boost not only education outcomes but also stimulate economic growth,” he concluded.

The proposed exchange programme underscores the Edo State Government’s commitment to international cooperation, student empowerment, and long-term investment in education and human capital development.
