Edo Police Intensify Crackdown on Cultism, Arrest Four in Targeted Operations


The Edo State Police Command has intensified its campaign against cult-related violence with a coordinated house-to-house operation that led to the arrest of four individuals linked to rival confraternities in Auchi and surrounding areas.

In a joint effort by the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit alongside operatives from Jattu and Auchi Divisions, the raid was carried out on June 22, 2025, following actionable intelligence on the activities of suspected cult members responsible for recent unrest in the region. Musa Murphy, 25, of No. 35 Ogeneni area, Jattu — identified as a member of the Arobaga Confraternity

Gabriel Moses, 25, from the ECocota-Community, Auchi — linked to the Aye Confraternity

Michael Ayo, 23, of No. 1 Emeke Uzuire, Auchi — alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity

Philip Sunday, 24, from Ebira Camp, Auchi — associated with the Vikings Confraternity Preliminary investigations suggest these individuals have direct involvement in recent cult clashes that disrupted peace within Auchi and nearby communities.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out cultism across the state. He urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing credible information and emphasized that the suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

The Edo State Police Command continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and support its efforts in restoring lasting peace and security across all communities.
