Anambra Police Rescue Child, Arrest Two Suspects in Foiled Abduction Attempt

Two suspected child traffickers have been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command following the successful rescue of two abducted children in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa, were taken into custody after a swift police operation.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the rescue followed a distress report lodged by the children’s mother on Wednesday, June 12. One of her children had returned home alone and revealed that two of his siblings had been taken by an unknown individual while on their way to her shop near Nwafor Junction in Eziora.

“Officers immediately swung into action and tracked the primary suspect to Okpuno-Oba, in Idemili South,” Ikenga stated. “Upon arrest, the suspect confessed and led officers to Oba, where the children had been handed over to a second accomplice for further trafficking.”

The children, aged three and five, were safely reunited with their parents, sparking relief and celebration in the local community. “It was a horrifying experience,” said the children’s father. “We are immensely grateful to the police for acting so quickly and bringing our kids home.”

Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the child-stealing network. The police have assured that the arrested suspects will face prosecution once investigations conclude.

“This achievement highlights our commitment to safeguarding children and fighting organized crime,” SP Ikenga added. “We remain vigilant in protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities.”

Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu praised the operation, calling it a testament to the force’s professionalism and rapid response capability. “Let this serve as a warning,” he said. “Crimes against children will be met with the full force of the law.”
